David McAlmont is a British vocalist, essayist, and art historian celebrated for his three-octave range and emotive delivery. Born in 1967 in Croydon to Guyanese and Nigerian parents, he emerged in the 1990s with the band Thieves and later gained fame through his electrifying collaboration with Bernard Butler as McAlmont & Butler, producing the anthemic Britpop-soul single Yes, which reached the UK Top 10—hailed as “an I Will Survive for the ’90s”
Following that success, McAlmont pursued solo projects, academia, and spoken-word art installations—earning roles at the University of Leicester and the Architectural Association as he immersed himself in art history and cultural commentary
Collaborations with Hifi Sean: In 2024–25, McAlmont released two albums with producer and DJ Hifi Sean—Daylight (summer vibe) and Twilight (winter counterpart), exploring club, gospel, synth-pop, and soul influences
