Unleashing the Power of world conquering Snap! with Producer Michael Münzing; #90s #snap! #musicinterviews #thepower #rhythmisadancer

A true pioneer of global dance music, Michael Münzing, born in Frankfurt, Germany, began his journey in the music industry during the 1980s, a time when European electronic music was just beginning to take shape on the global stage. But it was his collaboration with producer Luca Anzilotti that would ultimately change everything.

Together, Münzing and Anzilotti formed the production duo Benito Benites & John "Virgo" Garrett III—a pseudonym that gave them freedom from the commercial constraints of the industry. Under that alias, they launched the groundbreaking group Snap!, which fused hip-hop, house, and pop into a new, electrifying formula that would define the sound of early '90s dance music.

In 1990, Snap! burst onto the scene with “The Power,” a track that became an instant international hit. With its iconic “I’ve got the power!” sample and the fierce delivery of rapper Turbo B, the song topped the charts in countries across Europe and reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100—a rare feat for a German dance act at the time.

In 1992, he and Anzilotti released “Rhythm Is a Dancer”—another genre-defining anthem that became one of the most iconic dance tracks of all time. It hit No. 1 in over ten countries and remains a club staple to this day, its hook forever etched into pop culture.

Snap!’s sound was always evolving—melding styles and featuring a range of vocalists including Penny Ford, Thea Austin, and Niki Haris. Each incarnation reflected Münzing’s innovative approach to production and his ability to craft crossover hits with staying power.

Before Snap!, Michael Münzing was involved in other musical projects like Off (featuring Sven Väth), further cementing his role as a key figure in the rise of techno and electronic music from Germany.

Over the decades, he has remained largely behind the scenes, so it's an honour to welcome the man behind the power, the rhythm, and the legacy—Michael Münzing.
